New phones, new features, new reasons to head to the local electronics shop to deplete your wallets. Talking about smartphones can be a monumental occasion. A reason for celebration!
Today, we are not celebrating. Instead, we are reminiscing.
I’ve recently heard the all but confirmed rumor that LG Mobile will be officially bowing out of the Mobile business as of April 5th. This rumor is all but confirmed, but there could be some rumor for error still. As of right now, we have not hit April 5th.
Considering the recent failings of the products like the LG Wing and the LG Velvet, it is possible that we already knew that the story of LG Mobile has come to an end.
The end of LG Mobile may not be confirmed, but it’s all but inevitable.

The company has decided to leave the mobile market after suffering years of operating losses. According to the Korea Times, it looks like this decision has been in the works for some time after negotiations of selling off the business failed over the years.
After suffering operating losses since 2015, LG attempted recently to sell its mobile communications unit, which oversees the smartphone business. The company has reportedly been in negotiations with various interested buyers, including Vietnam’s Vingroup, but failed to reach an agreement with any of them.
The company will relocate the LG Mobile employees into other departments, which is a definite positive for those employees, but the end of LG Mobile has come upon us.
