I would say that this is a way to stop “many” divorces not really divorce as a whole. Your fringe cases where people should just not be married might be more complicated than appreciation. My parents are divorced. While I was upset when they were getting a divorce over 20 years ago it was most definitely the best thing for them both and for the family that they were divorced.
