Does anyone remember that time that I wrote about holding onto my iPhone 6 for 3+ years? No? That’s ok.
I’ve been holding onto my iPhone 7 Plus for just about 3 years. Ironically, after the last keep your 3 year old phone article. Possibly because the last phone broke. Anyway, here are some thoughts.
About 3 years ago I wrote about why it wasn’t a crime to hold onto a phone for as long as humanly possible. At that point, I was holding on strong to an iPhone 6 with a dbrand skin that made me feel extra fancy. The following year, the iPhone X would launch with its extra new-ness, mostly bezel-less screen with FaceID, and $1000 price tag.
It turns out that my iPhone 6 was on its last legs as the fancy new-ness was announced. Go figure. Not long after the post went live here on Medium, the my beloved little iPhone 6 decided that it wanted to retire. I decided that I would purchase an iPhone 7 Plus as my next device, with 32GB of storage. This was roughly 2017 when I got my iPhone 7 Plus, as we were knocking on the door of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X.
Edit to 2020, the year of mass pandemonium, a full blown Pandemic, and the disaster that is Kanye West running for president. I’m still holding on strong to my iPhone 7 Plus. it’s been a little over 2 years that I’ve had the device, its got a healthy crack across the top half of the device, and the 86% battery…
