OnePlus 9 Rumors, Thoughts, and More

The Flagship Killer Returns.

2021 has been more entertaining when it comes to smartphone news. Likely due to extenuating circumstances, but I’m here for it nonetheless.

OnePlus news has been given the inevitable leaky faucet treatment when it comes to phone rumors. The latest series from the original ‘Flagship Killer’ will be announced on March 23rd via a virtual event.

Of course, the idea of an in-person event is still a bit of a pipe dream, but maybe the OnePlus 10 will come with an in-person event in 2022.

As they say, there’s always next year.

OnePlus has always had amazing phones, at equally amazing prices. The One Plus 9 series is no different.

Considered the Next Big Android phone of the year by numerous tech publications, OnePlus will always be an Android power-player.

Known as the Flagship Killer back from the OnePlus in late 2013. The device is expected to have the best of the premium level specifications for a manageable price.

I’m here for a bit of competition for Samsung and Apple, and until we see a respectable foldable phone come from LG, HTC, BlackBerry, or some other smartphone manufacturer that I miss with my whole spirit.

OnePlus x Hasselblad = Respectable Camera Time

OnePlus X Hasselblad Press Release — Via OnePlus Press Release

One Plus will make a huge leap into camera territory with their newest flagship devices. My limited history with OnePlus devices coupled with my understanding of previous OnePlus has led me to believe that camera quality is an afterthought for OnePlus

Did anyone think that the OnePlus 7 Pro pop-up camera was going to last past the OnePlus 7 Pro? I’m glad it didn’t stick around. But that’s another story for another day

A new partnership between One Plus and Hasselblad, the premium camera juggernaut known for pure, quality shooters for professionals and YouTubers will likely lead to OnePlus having cameras that might not be so miserable for a change. OnePlus is going all-in on the camera tech for their upcoming OnePlus devices. Check out the information from the OnePlus Press Release below.

Today, global technology brand OnePlus has officially announced a three-year partnership with legendary camera manufacturer Hasselblad to co-develop the next generation of smartphone camera systems for future OnePlus flagship devices. The two companies have already been cooperating on the revamped camera system — Hasselblad Camera for Mobile — for the new OnePlus 9 Series, set to launch globally on March 23.

Here is some information about Hasselblad, the premier camera company in existence over the last 80 years.

For 80 years, Hasselblad has pioneered high-performance camera technology to become recognized as the world leader in digital medium format cameras and lenses. Their products are known for their uncompromising image quality, Scandinavian design, and precision mechanics, which have earned the trust of some of the greatest photographers in the world and captured some of the world’s most iconic images — including man’s first steps on the moon.

OnePlus consumers, fans, and critics should all be incredibly excited to see a One Plus camera that they can be excited about over the next three years. Check out more on the OnePlus Hasselblad partnership below:

Enough about the camera. Let’s hit up the specs. My favorite part of this party.

OnePlus 9

I never anticipated how tricky it would be to find a solid One Plus 9 photo...So here’s a One Plus not 9! Photo by Denny Ryanto on Unsplash

The One Plus 9 is the mainstream device for the masses. Marketed to the majority of the Android faithful, this will likely be the device that the majority of OnePlus consumers will buy.

The device specifications will be an upgrade from last year’s OnePlus 8 series, but perhaps not at the level of the OnePlus 8T.

Think Galaxy S21 versus Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The One Plus 9 will have decent specs, a moderate camera set up (albeit a triple camera set up versus the heavy-duty camera options with the Galaxy S21)

Onto the Specifications for the OnePlus 9: (From Pocket-Lint, Phone Arena, and Tech Radar)

  • 6.5" 2400x1080 pixels
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 888
  • Oxygen OS based on Android 11
  • 4500mAh Battery
  • 8GB RAM / 256GB ROM
  • Triple Camera 48MP + 50MP + 2MP Combo
  • 5G Capability
  • Warp Charge 65W Capability
  • 120Hz display
  • USB-C Port
  • Punch Hole Selfie Camera Cutout
  • Possible $749 price for the base model

On paper, the specifications of the OnePlus 9 look pretty good. The One Plus 8 reviewed relatively well save for the camera capability. We can hope that the Hasselblad partnership can help propel the camera quality to a more respectable level. At least, I hope so.

OnePlus 9 will likely add accessories to the mix that will up the ante with their upcoming launch. With accessories like OnePlus Buds, chargers, and even backpacks, the company’s ability to buck the marketing trend is amazing.

If the OnePlus 9 device can match the company’s marketing prowess, then OnePlus will continue to be in business.

OnePlus 9 Pro

I mean, you can kind of think of the same idea for the OnePlus 9 on the front when you look at this…I hope. From OnePlus.com

The pro version of the OnePlus 9 will be the absolute top of the line considering what OnePlus has to offer. The partnership with Hasselblad is evident in the quality of the device.

OnePlus has used the experience gained from the last 8 years to hone its craft as a true flagship killer.

The company has done well-matching specifications pound for pound with the more mainstream manufacturers, even though the camera has not been a strong contender.

Since OnePlus’s entrance into the US Phone Carrier market via T-Mobile, the OnePlus brand has become a proper contender to models like Samsung and Apple.

On to the specifications! (Taken from Phone Arena, Pocket-Lint, and other tech publications)

OnePlus 9 Pro

  • 6.7" 144MHz Refresh Rate (Or 120MHz Refresh Rate)
  • Oxygen OS based on Android 11
  • QuadHD+ Resolution screen
  • 5G Capable
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 888
  • 8GB or 12 GB RAM — 128GB or 256GB ROM
  • 5000mAh Battery
  • 65W Warp Charge
  • USB-C Charging Port
  • Punch Hole selfie camera cut out.
  • IP68 Water, Dust, Drop resistance

Simply put, the OnePlus 9 Pro is a top-of-the-line device available at about a $1000 price. The Pro will have a flatter display, in contrast to the OnePlus 9’s curved display.

The device will be marketed as a direct competitor to devices like the Samsung Galaxy S21 and the iPhone 13. See my information on both device series below:

Interested in the OnePlus 9 Pro? Let’s check out the other end of the spectrum. The OnePlus 9 E.

OnePlus 9E, or 9 Lite, or 9R

This actually isn't the OnePlus 9E, but it’s the same idea, right? — From OnePlus

The company will be launching a lite version of the flagship series. The upcoming lite version of the OnePlus 9 could be called everything from the One Plus 9 Lite, the OnePlus 9 E, or the OnePlus R.

Here are the presumed specs of the OnePlus 9E. The specs have different depending on which tech publication you look at. I found these specs from a mix of Android Central and Tech Radar.

OnePlus 9E Specs

  • Snapdragon 865 (Newer Rumors from Tech Radar pin the device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690)
  • Oxygen OS based on Android 11
  • Around $600 Price range possibly
  • 65W Fast Charging
  • 90Hz refresh rate possibly
  • Dual Camera Set Up — 64MP Main + 8MP Ultrawide
  • 8GB RAM / 128 GB ROM
  • 6.5" Full HD+ Display
  • 5000 mAh Battery

This device will be the entry-level version of the flagship device series. Important for people who are interested in a high-quality device at a reasonable price. We may see the OnePlus 9 Lite will be in the realm of $600.

A Wild One Plus Wearable Appears!

A Wild OnePlus Watch Appears! — From One Plus

Rumors suggest that the One Plus Watch will be announced during the OnePlus 9 event.

Previously mentioned by CEO Pete Lau, the OnePlus Watch has been on the minds of many since last year.

Pete Lau giving the children what they want.

The OnePlus Watch is rumored to have a Circular Screen, with a price in the realm of the mid $200 price range.

Via Tech Radar, the OnePlus watch will possibly be an Android WearOS flavored watch. Perhaps with a Snapdragon Wear 4100 or Wear 4100 Plus chipset

Aside from the information and speculation from Tech Radar, not much is known about the One Plus Watch.

Are You Ready for the OnePlus 9?

It should be exciting to see what One Plus has for its upcoming One Plus watch and the OnePlus 9 series of devices.

Are you ready for the flagship killer to strike again? Or are you more apt for a Samsung flavored device for your next smartphone?

It’s me 😊. I give my random opinion on various aspects of Technology, Life, and everything else in between.
