I’m closing in on a year of writing on Medium. Well, a year of consistent writing on Medium. I should say that consistent is a loose definition of what I’ve been doing, but that’s alright. I’ve had a good time overall writing on the platform, with a few ups and downs.

I never realized the kind of world I would get into once I started writing on a more consistent basis on this platform.

However extensive the Medium writing world is, I’ve found a way to manage after close to a year on the platform. I’ve learned a few things as I’ve navigated the Medium world. Let’s go over them.

Curation is still a mystery. Should we even care about being curated?

A major part of writing on Medium is the curation factor. Curation deals with the Medium Algorithm choosing whether or not to further distribute your piece. For many writers, curation is the holy grail of a Medium writers’ journey.

A curated story shows in your story’s stats. You’ll see that the story was “chosen for further distribution” under the title on the stats page.
